Des was born and raised in Douglas Cork, Ireland.
He first took up the guitar as a teenager and played in various bands around Cork city
during the 1960's & 1970's. He gave up the music scene in 1977 to concentrate on business.
Married with 5 sons and after a lifetime in business, Des decided to return to his roots in
2009 when he began writing songs for the first time.
Des has been fulltime singer/songwriter since 2009 and is currently working on his third album which is expected for release in 2023. He released his first album "Magic Carpet"
in May 2010 which consisted of all his own original material. His Latest album "Hope Spings Eternal",
also contains 12 original songs by Des, one of which, "The Peace Drum" has been released as a single in commemoration of the 100 year anniversary of the death of Michael Collins (1922 - 2022).
His latest album is called "Hope Springs Eternal".
All 12 songs are original material, with words and music written by Des.
There is an amazing amalgam of styles from Country to Reggae and Ballads to Blues.
It appears that Des Collins has finally found what he has been looking for.
He should never have left the music business.
Welcome Back Des
A young man called Michael Collins from Bandon Co. Cork was killed in action in France
during the 1914-1918 war aged 19. His nephew Des Collins a singer/songwriter decided to
write a song in his memory.
"The Peace Drum" is the result.
The fact that his more illustrious namesake lived just a few miles away adds to the
tragedy and bitter irony of war.
